Where You Worked Before

Following on from Tip One, remember that there might have been fabulous roles in places you worked once before.

When you are searching for that ‘dream job’, you just never know where it might pop up, so start thinking, and start letting go of any reasons you might have had about going back!

Because yes, it is OK to go back, whatever the famous saying might say (’Never go back’ :-(( )

Time to get creative here.

  1. What places have you worked before in your career?
  2. Where you were educated?
  3. What vacation jobs did you do?
  4. Where have you done some voluntary work?

There are all sorts of places you’ve been before that might hold that totally perfect position just for you.

Think hard, dig deep and consider your past - it’s a huge pile of resources and opportunities it would be crazy to write off, whatever you feet about it then!

Easy Resume Tips - Working Backwards

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

The first thing you need to work on with your resume writing is ensuring that it makes sense to whoever is scrutinizing it.

Sure, it needs to be snappy, but one of the most irritating things is when you have to try to piece together the jobs they had and the places they worked.

If it aint easy, I’m already practicing my basketball toss into the bin.

Hey, I have 30-40 of these. If it’s a hassle, why should I care?

So, by getting your work history in backwards order, your reader will immediately be able to see what your most recent experience is and be compelled to read on.

Especially when what you’ve been doing has been interesting enough for them (because, and this is a different thing altogether, you’ve applied for a role that suits you - and them).

Potential employers don’t really care what you did twenty years ago. There’s a sliding scale of value to work history and the older it is, the less valuable it gets, right down to zero, pretty fast.

Pertinent and recent is what they’ll watch for, to determine if you’re suitable for the job.
